In honor of International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating some of Atlanta’s most notable and successful women. Today, we’re celebrating former WSB-TV news anchor Monica Pearson.
Pearson became the first female and Black person to anchor the WSB-TV evening news. She worked at WSB for 37 years and retired from broadcasting in 2012.
During her time as an anchor, Pearson received more than 33 Southern regional and local Emmy awards. In 2016, she was inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame, the University of Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame, the Atlanta Press Club Hall of Fame, the Georgia Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame, and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
