Today we remember the life of former president and Georgia native, Jimmy Carter.
Carter was born to humble beginnings in Plains, where his family owned a peanut farm. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy and serving in the Navy, Carter returned home to help his family, and his passion for activism grew. Carter won the 1976 presidential election after serving terms in the Georgia State Senate and as governor. His work didn’t stop there—he founded The Carter Center to promote and expand human rights, earning him a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. He also volunteered for Habitat Humanity and taught Sunday school at his home church in Plains.
Our thoughts are with Jimmy Carter’s loved ones as they not only deal with the loss of an inspiration to many but also a beloved family member. Jimmy Carter impacted the lives of thousands, and his legacy will live on forever.
